what is eclipse season?

An eclipse occurs when the path of the sun and the path of moon align. In a solar eclipse, the moon passes between the earth and the sun, causing the moon’s shadow to cast onto earth. In a lunar eclipse, the earth is between the Sun and Moon with all three bodies lying on the same plane of orbit, causing earth’s shadow to be cast onto the moon.

Why does this have such a strong influence on us? Every eclipse is a powerful interaction between us and our two luminaries: the sun and moon.  In astrology, the sun represents our soul’s purpose & what lights us up. The moon is our inner most emotional realm and how we feel internally. When these “planets” align, there is a powerful shift that feels fated and karmic due to the new & full moon occurring on the lunar nodes (the points where the paths of each luminary, called the ecliptic, intersect).

A solar eclipse occurs on a new moon and carries with it the energy of endings leading to new beginnings. Traditionally, eclipses brought about the fall or death of a kind paving the way for new rulership. A lunar eclipse occurs on a full moon and carries the energy of culmination, celebration, action, and release.

Together, this lunar cycle that lines up on the ecliptic (where the moon’s orbital path crosses the sun’s orbital path- as it appears to move around the earth) is called ECLIPSE SEASON.

Unlike other planetary transits, the energy of eclipses lingers and can last up to six months when another eclipse season starts. If there is ONE THING to pay attention to in astrology, it’s the eclipses and how the 18 month eclipse story plays out in your life.
